Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations in Bangalore

Where to shoot, what hour to be there, and which of them need a permit.

Bangalore is unusually good for pre-wedding shoots: hills within ninety minutes, colonial parkland inside the city, and granite country an hour south. The catch is that the best of it is either crowded, permitted, or both — so this list says which, rather than pretending every location is a simple drive-and-shoot.

Distances are approximate and Bangalore traffic makes a liar of anyone who quotes them precisely. Where a permit is needed we arrange it as part of the booking.

The locations

Nandi Hills

The obvious answer, and still the right one. About an hour and a half north if you leave early enough. Go for sunrise above the cloud line — arrive late and you get a car park and a queue.

Skandagiri

Near Nandi and considerably quieter. A hike rather than a drive, which is exactly why it is emptier.

Lalbagh Botanical Garden

Inside the city, and genuinely beautiful in the first hour after opening. Commercial shoots need a permit — this is not one to chance.

Cubbon Park

Tree canopy and colonial stone in the middle of Bangalore. Same permit rule as Lalbagh. Best very early on a weekday.

Bangalore Palace grounds

Tudor architecture and lawns, and the one Bangalore location we have a published wedding film from. Booked and permitted rather than walked into.

Hesaraghatta grasslands

About an hour north-west. Open grassland and enormous sky — the closest thing to a wide-open landscape near the city. Best in the cooler months.

Ramanagara

Granite hills roughly an hour south along the Mysore road. Dramatic rock, warm light, and almost nobody photographing there at dawn.

Devanahalli and the Nandi foothills

Fort walls, farmland and the airport road. Convenient if you are flying family in and want to shoot the morning before.

Bheemeshwari, on the Cauvery

Two to three hours south. River, forest and mist. A day trip rather than a session, and worth it if you have the day.

Chikkaballapur and the lakes north

Water and open horizon under two hours out, and far less photographed than Nandi twenty minutes away.

The same two rules apply here as anywhere. Book the light, not the day — an hour of good light beats six hours of bad. And plan one outfit change at most; every change costs you twenty minutes of the only thing you cannot buy more of.

Which pre-wedding location in Bangalore needs a permit?

Lalbagh, Cubbon Park and the Bangalore Palace grounds all require permission for a commercial shoot, and forest areas around Bheemeshwari have their own rules. We arrange permits as part of the booking.

When is the best time of year?

October to February. Cooler, clearer, and the grasslands and lakes are still green. Bangalore summer light is harsh and the haze shows in wide frames.

How early do we have to start?

Earlier than you want to. Nandi Hills means leaving the city around four in the morning; Lalbagh and Cubbon mean being there as the gates open. That is the price of having the place to yourselves.

Can you shoot a pre-wedding film too?

Yes, and most couples do both — a song-led film alongside the stills. Several of the films on this page were shot exactly that way.

Do you travel from Coimbatore just for a pre-wedding shoot?

We do, and travel is quoted at cost. If your wedding is also booked with us, we usually fold the trip in.
